Why do Republicans keep trying to make earmarks an issue, anyway? Don't most people want their congresspeople to bring home the bacon? Who doesn't like nice, new, federally-funded bridges, highways, parks, museums and such? If we're going to pay taxes, we might as well get something back for them, right? Who really gives a crap about stopping earmarks? I don't see how this will ever be a winning issue.

I think a lot of people (okay, me included, usually) don't know what earmarks are exactly, and assume we wouldn't keep bringing them up unless they were universally understood to be Bad.
